Sig Sauer P365XL & Streamlight TLR-7 X Sub

Streamlight TLR-7 Sub versus the TLR-7 X Sub. Are they the same?

Jason Pine

We spoke with a Streamlight rep who indicated that there were no dimensional differences between the original TLR-7 Sub and the new TLR-7 X Sub in August of 2024. We were able to secure a Sig TLR-7 X Sub to double-check what we were told.

Additionally, we have found that the TLR-7 HL-X Sub is the same size as the TLR-7 Sub and TLR-7 X Sub externally. The upgrades are all 100% internal.

Trust, but verify.

A quick comparison of the TLR-7 Sub against the TLR-7 X Sub

If you need guidance to determine which variant of the TLR-7 Sub fits your pistol, Streamlight has a fit guide that can be found HERE.

Streamlight is working to update this guide frequently from what I am seeing, If you don't see your particular firearm on the list, you can contact them through their customer service contact form.

Too long to read, don't want to follow links:

Since we have confirmed that the original TLR-7 Sub, the newer TLR-7 X Sub, and the rockstar model TLR-7 HL-X Sub are all three dimensionally the same, we wanted to give you a quick rundown of the popular pistol and light combination options. Please forgive me in advance if I missed one.

TLR-7 SUB 1913

If your pistol has a 1913 Picatinny rail, you need the 1913 version of the TLR-7 Sub. We strongly suggest you browse for holsters BEFORE purchasing the light for your particular pistol. Most people don't run a light designed for a sub-compact gun on a full-size pistol, so TLR-7 Sub holsters for full-size pistols will be harder to find.

Common pistols that require the 1913 version are listed below:

Sig Sauer P365-FUSE, P365-XMACRO, P365-XMACRO COMP, P365-XMACRO-TACOPS, and P365-AXG LEGION.

Springfield Hellcat Pro

Mischief Machine P365 Grip Modules.

Icarus Precision P365 Grip Modules.

TLR-7 SUB SIG

If you have a Sig Sauer P365, P365X, or P365XL, you need the SIG version of the light.

TLR-7 SUB GL

You need the GL Version of the TLR-7 Sub If you have a Glock 43X MOS or 48 MOS,  FN Reflex or Reflex XL,  or Shadow Systems CR 920, CR920P, or CR920XP (This has been confirmed by Shadow Systems).

TLR-7 SUB SA

If you have a Hellcat, you need the SA version of the light.

TLR-7 Sub Holsters:

We have an entire holster collection dedicated to the TLR-7 Sub, and we have been involved with this product family since Streamlight launched the line. If you have any questions on which light to use for your pistol, feel free to reach out to us so we can help answer your questions before you purchase either the light or a holster.

We would much rather be proactive and help, than reactive and fix a mistake that could have been avoided. We prefer to eliminate frustration ahead of time!

I recently ordered a holster and may have made a mistake. The light I have is the streamlight TLR-7A. Will what I ordered still work?
