Putting the 2024 S&W SPEC Series V to work with the Trijicon RMR HD & TLR-1 HL-X
Jason PineShare
I have been working with the Smith & Wesson M&P Metal SPEC Series V, and I thought I would share some initial thoughts on the build now that I have some rounds down range.
I added the Trijicon RMR HD and the Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X, both of which have been rock solid until recently. (More on that below).
Trijicon RMR HD
The RMR HD has quickly become my favorite optic. I know, it's expensive, but the optic is extremely clear. I love the 55/1 MOA recticle. I have the 55/3.25 recticle on the SPEC, but haven't decided which one I like better. The forward-facing light sensor works way better than I expected.
Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X
The TLR-1 HL-X USB has been bright and consistent for me in the past. I like the switches, front-loading batteries, and the overall light performance. It is a good balance of brightness and throw. I had an issue with this particular light staying on while shooting, but I haven't figured out why yet. Has anyone else experienced this? I have not reached out to Streamlight yet. I want to recharge the batteries and try again.

Trigger & Ergonomics
Ergonomics on the pistol itself are top notch, which is to be expected with the Metal grip module. The trigger on this pistol measured 3 pounds 10 ounces on my Wheeler Trigger Gauge. It is a little bit lighter than the trigger on my Metal Carry Comp.

Accuracy & Performance
The Strike Industries Comp works well and stays in place while shooting. I'm planning to shoot the 2023 SPEC Series pistol side by side with this one to see if I can tell any difference between the two comps. The pistol was very accurate with Magtech 115-grain FMJ. I haven't shot any other brands yet, but I will. CCI Blazer and Grind Hard 115 grain are on deck.
The gun is more accurate than I am, that's for sure. I need to get a pistol rest to start testing accuracy. I purchased the CTK Precision Compact Shooting Rest for future tests.
SPEC V Holster Fitment
I've got it all riding in our Duty & Comp OWB Holster for range days. I doubt I'll ever carry this IWB, but I'm sure someone will. If you are interested, we have an entire 2024 S&W SPEC Series V Holster Collection.
I do want to mention that the pistol doesn't fit all M&P 2.0 9MM holsters. The size of the Comp isn't like the 2023 SPEC, it will NOT pass through holsters designed to be close to the profile of the slide and frame.
Anyone else running this? I'm curious to know what light, optic, and ammo others have found success with on the SPEC Series V. Leave us a comment below!
