The P365 Family Tree: Making Sense of Sig's Expanding Lineup

SIG’s P365 lineup makes sense once you stop thinking in model names and start thinking in three variables: slide length, grip length, and features (optic cut, comp, safety, caliber). The platform is modular, so SIG mixes and matches those pieces across a growing list of SKUs.

Below is our practical “family tree” breakdown you can use to understand what each P365 variant is for, and which one typically fits your carry goals.

The Core P365 Platform, in Plain English

Most P365 variants are built around:

  • Micro-compact width and footprint
  • Stack-and-a-half style magazine design that scales capacity depending on the grip and magazine (10, 12, 15, 17, and even 21 rounds in certain models)
  • Modularity that allows different grips, slides, and feature packages (especially in Custom Works configurations)

Think of it like this: SIG built a chassis and then created “branches” for different concealment and shootability priorities.

Branch 1: The Original P365 “Micro-Compact” Line

P365 (the baseline)

This is the original concept: maximum concealment, short slide, short grip. It’s the reference point for everything else.

P365X (short slide, longer grip feel)

The P365X pairs a short slide with a slightly longer grip module, giving shooters improved control and a more secure firing grip while maintaining a compact overall footprint. Many P365X models also feature an optics-ready slide, making them a popular choice for concealed carriers who want enhanced shootability without stepping up to a longer slide.

P365XL (longer slide, longer sight radius)

The XL direction is about shootability: longer slide length, longer sight radius, and typically a grip length that supports larger magazines. It’s still slim and carryable, just easier to run fast for most shooters.

Branch 2: Comped P365s (Integrated Compensator Models)

SIG’s “Comp” variants are trying to give you faster follow-up shots without turning the gun into a large carry piece.

P365XL Spectre Comp

This is one of the best-known “comp” executions in the lineup. SIG describes it as having an integrated compensator and markets a reduction in muzzle flip and felt recoil. For reliable concealed carry, pair your P365XL with a precision-formed IWB holster that’s adjustable for retention, ride height, and cant.

XMACRO Comp

The XMACRO Comp concept is “full-size feel, slim carry.” SIG highlights 17+1 capacity in a 1-inch-wide profile and an integrated compensator for faster follow-up shots.

Branch 3: The Capacity and Duty-Leaning P365s

This branch is for anyone who wants more rounds and more shootability, while still staying in the P365 footprint.

P365 XMACRO

The XMACRO line is the “macro grip” concept, built around higher capacity magazines and a larger grip module. SIG positions the XMACRO Comp as a 17-round option that remains slim and concealable. For a balanced carry setup with the P365 XMACRO, an IWB magazine pouch designed for the Macro grip keeps spare magazines secure and easily accessible.

P365-FUSE

The FUSE is SIG pushing the platform even further toward “carry plus.” SIG’s own materials describe it as a fusion of capability and concealment with a 4.3-inch barrel and 21+1 capacity.

The FUSE deserves a call-out because it stretches the P365 into a longer slide profile while staying in the same family.

Branch 4: Caliber and Program Variants

P365-380 and ROSE editions

The P365 also exists in .380 variants, including ROSE packages. SIG describes ROSE kits as including the pistol (9mm or .380, depending on model), a Vaultek lockable case, and access to a training series and community.

It’s important to keep in mind that ROSE is less about mechanical differences and more about the package and program.

Branch 5: Premium and “Feature Stack” Variants

P365 AXG LEGION

This is a premium-feature branch featuring an alloy Macro grip frame with G10 panels, an optics-cut, integral compensated slide, and other upgrades. These matter for your fitment and holster because “Macro” grip geometry and comped slides can change what “the same gun” means from a carry setup standpoint.

The premium configuration changes fitment in two key ways. The Macro grip frame is longer and wider than standard P365 grips, which affects how the holster indexes and how the gun conceals against the body. The integral compensated slide also alters slide length and porting geometry, which can change muzzle clearance and retention points.

Together, these differences mean holsters designed for standard P365 or XL models may not fit correctly, even though the pistol shares the same family name.

A Simple Way to Pick the Right P365 Variant

Choose the branch that matches your priority

  • Deep concealment: Smaller P365 configurations prioritize minimal grip length and reduced bulk for discreet carry.
  • Improved grip and control: X-style grip modules and longer magazines provide a more secure firing grip without moving to a larger frame.
  • Flatter shooting characteristics: Compensated variants, including the P365XL Spectre Comp and XMACRO Comp, are designed to reduce muzzle rise and improve follow-up shot control.
  • Higher capacity within the platform: Models like the XMACRO and P365-FUSE increase magazine capacity while retaining the slim P365 profile.
  • Premium configurations: AXG LEGION variants add upgraded materials and features for shooters who want a higher-end execution of the platform.

Then confirm the three things that affect fitment and carry

  1. Slide length (short, XL-length, long like FUSE)
  2. Grip module size (standard vs Macro)
  3. Light and optic setup (rail-mounted lights and red dot footprint)
  4. Most fitment issues come from differences in firearm configuration and weapon-mounted lights, which is why holsters must be matched to both.

SIG’s naming can get confusing fast, but holster fitment doesn't have to. The P365 platform changes meaningfully when you change the grip module, slide length, optic, or weapon light. Match those details correctly, and the rest gets easy.

Use the Holster Finder to select your exact P365 model and light setup, then build a carry rig that locks in consistent retention and a clean draw every day.
